Skeet 2021

The West Midlands Inter Counties Skeet was held at Doveridge on 5th September. In warm conditions and with some strange targets at times, and despite some below par shooting Derbyshire came away with 2 Silver medals.The Senior team of Kieron Lomax 97/100, Nick Barnes 95/100, Alan Barnes 92/100, Andrew Dixon 91/100, Geoff Flint 90/100 and Steve Pinch 89/100 for at total of 465/500 was enough to take runners up in Seniors behind winners Warwickshire on 479/500. In the Ladies Derbyshire’s trio of Julie Havill 91/100, Sam Rhodes 86/100 and Sarah Johnson 77/100 tied with Cheshire Ladies on 177/100 for the Gold medal. After the resulting shoot off Cheshire won the Gold and Derbyshire the Silver medal. The Veterans team of Chris Havill 91/100, Peter Taylor 86/100 and Paul Bingley 81/100 finished just out of the medals. The Derbyshire High Gun trophy was won by Kieron Lomax on 97/100.Well done to you all.

The Skeet County Championship was held at Nottingham & District Gun Club on 13th June. In warm sunny conditions Steve Pinch and Alan Barnes both shot 98/100, which required a shoot off which Steve won 24/25 to Alan’s 23/25.
Kieron Lomax on 95/100 and Geoff Flint 94/100 where the next highest.
Veterans Champion was Chris Havill on 97/100 followed by Paul Hallam on 93/100 and Paul Bingley on92/100. Ladies Champion was Julie Havill on 95/100.

The last Skeet Team selection was held at Nottingham & District Gun Club on 23rd June. Geoff Flint was the top scorer in the Seniors on 98/100, followed by Paul Bingley on 96/100, Steve Pinch on 93/100, Graham Smith on 92/100 and Craig Edley on 91/100. In the Ladies Julie Havill was again the top scorer on 97/100, followed by Sarah Johnson on 86/100 and Pip Driver on 80/100. Joint top of the Veterans was Chris Havill and Billy Parkin both on 96/100, followed by Mark Badkin on 88/100. Daniel Griffin was the top Junior.

The Skeet County Championship was held at Nottingham & District Gun Club on 9th June. In sunny and a light sometimes gusty breeze, 20 Derbyshire shooters battled it out to be County Champion. In the Seniors Geoff Flint was County Champion on 98/100, with Andrew Dixon runner up on 97/100, followed by Nick Barnes on 96/100, Alan Barnes on 95/100 and Paul Bingley and Steve Pinch all on 94/100. Veterans Champion was Paul Hallam on 95/100, with Keith Roe runner up on 95/100 ( Keith not available for the shoot off ) followed by Chris Havill on 94/100 and Billy Parkin on 93/100. Ladies Champion was Julie Havill on 94/100 with Pip Driver runner up with a personal best score of 90/100, after only 3 months of shooting registered competition. Junior Champion was Danny Griffin on 68/100.

The Skeet Doubles County Championship was held at Nottingham & District Gun Club on 26th May. The windy conditions made the targets variable, James Wood shot 95/100 to take the Senior title with Alan Barnes runner up on 93/100 followed by Nick Barnes on 90/100. Veterans Champion was Paul Hallam on 92/100 and Ladies Champion was Danielle Simpson. Well done to all winners.

The West Midlands Area Skeet Championships was held at Doveridge on 5th May. Derbyshire shooters where amongst the medals with Alan Barnes, Chris Havill and Paul Hallam all on 98/100 all taking the Overall Bronze medal. Paul Hallam and Chris Havill also won the Silver medal in the Veterans. Well done to you all.
it was also the 2nd Skeet team selection shoot with Alan Barnes the top senior on 98/100, followed by Geoff Flint on 96/100, with Graham Smith, Andrew Dixon Matthew Pegg all on 94/100. Veterans was topped by Chris Havill and Paul Hallam on 98/100, followed by Ron Baron and Billy Parkin on 89/100. Julie Havill was top of the Ladies on 90/100 followed by Sarah Johnson on 79/100 and Pip Driver on 73/100.

Help 4 Heroes Skeet
The annual Derbyshire v Nottinghamshire Skeet challenge in support of the Help 4 Heroes Charity was held on 17th March at Nottingham & District Gun Club. In windy conditions that made the targets a little bit entertaining. Nottinghamshire claimed the trophy this year on 891/1000 to Derbyshire’s 886/1000. A total of £350 was raised at this event with the Down the Line challenge to come.
This was also a Derbyshire team selection with Alan Barnes the top scoring Senior on 94/100 followed by Geoff Flint and Paul Bingley on 89/100, and Craig Edley on 84/100. Top Veteran was Chris Havill on 93/100 followed by Mark Badkin on 91/100. Julie Havill was the top Lady on 94/100.
